The 20th nation for 2020, the newest Invictus Games participating nation revealed!
Thursday, 9th January. The Invictus Games Foundation is delighted to announce that the newest member of the Invictus Family is the Republic of Korea.
The twentieth nation to join the list of Invictus Games participating nations, after Belgium was announced as number nineteen last year, the Republic of Korea will be sending a team of 11 wounded, injured or sick service personnel to the Invictus Games The Hague 2020.
Joining the team on their journey to recovery through sport will be their Family and Friends, alongside the international supporters and ticketholders who will be journeying to The Hague next May to cheer on all the competitors. The Family and Friends are at the Games to be thanked for their vital role in the recovery of the competitors.
The 11 Korean competitors will be taking part in Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Indoor Rowing, Powerlifting, and Swimming.
Korean Competitor Hyunmin Jeong, said: “Through participation in sport, and in the Invictus Games, we hope to remind ourselves once again of the importance of dedication, perseverance, and tenacity which will help us navigate through the most difficult times.”
Dominic Reid, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, said, “We are tremendously excited to be announcing the Republic of Korea as the 20th participating nation in time for the 2020 Games. We know that the positive impact of the Games grows as it becomes more and more international. And so we look forward to welcoming them to The Hague later this year.”
Team Leader Kim Deok Nam, President of Korea Disabled Veterans Organisation (Sports Council), said: “We are very pleased to be invited to send a team to participate in the Invictus Games The Hague 2020. We look forward to seeing Korean military personnel leaping forward as a symbol of hope and honour.”
Next May, the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 will host 500 competitors from across the 20 participating nations to compete in 10 adaptive sports from the 9th – 16th May 2020. Most events will be staged in The Hague’s Zuiderpark, to be renamed the Invictus Games Park next May.
