The Invictus Games Foundation has conducted its first official visit to Ukraine, since they joined the Invictus Community of Nations in 2017.
The delegation from the Foundation was led by Chief Executive Dominic Reid OBE and Deputy CEO Richard Smith alongside Operation’s Manager Caroline Davis and Invictus Community Liaison Executive Josh Boggi with the aim of promoting the ‘Beyond the Games’ programme and connecting further with the Invictus Community.
The ‘Beyond the Games’ programme at the Invictus Games Foundation is run through the We Are Invictus platform and all members of the international wounded, injured or sick (WIS) service community are eligible to join.
Since 2021, Ukraine has been embroiled in a conflict with Russia and we have seen rising numbers of Ukrainians accessing the services provided by the ‘Beyond the Games programme.
The Ukranian team was able to express the substantial need for sporting recovery opportunities to the Invictus Games Foundation team and how we can best serve their growing community of injured service members.
The Invictus Games Foundation is currently supported by the Monster Energy Cares Foundation to use sport to facilitate the recovery of the Ukrainian WIS community.
The Foundation was also able to assess the national team’s preparations for the upcoming Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, the first winter hybrid edition of the Games.
The Foundation team attended biathlon, swimming, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing training sessions with the Ukrainian national team and were also treated to a welcome event of barbeque and board games.
