London, United Kingdom – 6th November – The Invictus Games Foundation proudly welcomes Brazil and Lithuania as the newest members of its ever-growing community of nations. These countries, now part of a movement that celebrates the power of sport for the recovery of international wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans, are set to participate in the highly anticipated Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 presented by ATCO and Boeing. These Games will mark a significant chapter in the Invictus Games story as the first Winter hybrid Games bringing together participants from around the world, united in their shared journey to recovery through sports post injury or illness.
Also joining Brazil and Lithuania in this year’s line-up is the newly formed team, Afghan Unconquered announced on the 6th November. As all three teams prepare to join competitors from other nations, the Invictus Games Foundation reaffirms its commitment to the recovery and rehabilitation of all wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans, regardless of nationality.
“Sport saves lives, changes lives and transforms lives. Brazil's entry into the Invictus Family is a dream come true. Through Invictus, we can continue to raise the flag of inclusion and the search for the limit, for the dream of our militaries of being better and better. The fact that Brazil joins the Invictus Community is a reason for much celebration." said Lieutenant Colonel Pavelec, Brazilian Military Sports Commission, Military Parasport.
General Raimundas Vaiksnoras, Chief of Defence of the Republic of Lithuania, said, “Looking after our troops is an honour bestowed and anyone that has ever commanded in the military, this is especially true when those soldiers have put themselves in the harm way for the freedom of the nation. It is a true privilege that one of the first things I did with my first week in command was to confirm Lithuania as a new member of the Invictus Community of Nations. As part of this community, we are showing how much we respect those men and women who serve Lithuania and how we support those that become wounded, injured or thick during the service.”
Dominic Reid OBE, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, said, “We are delighted that as the work of the Invictus Games Foundation continues to change lives and save lives, more nations continue to express interest in joining the community in order to grow access to sport recovery for their wounded injured and sick service personnel and veterans. The additions of Brazil and Lithuania are helping us keep up the momentum in our ten year anniversary year and we look forward to meeting their competitors next year.”
As preparations for Vancouver Whistler 2025 continue, the Invictus Games Foundation looks forward to celebrating the power of sports as a means for recovery and community building. The upcoming Winter Hybrid Games will serve as a platform for showcasing the profound resilience and achievements of servicemen and women and will undoubtedly inspire audiences globally.
