Mike Bourgeois suffered a spinal cord injury during his initial training with the Canadian Armed Forces, unfortunately this injury went undiagnosed and Mike would go on to complete his entire military service with a broken spine.
This injury led to a severe degradation of his mobility, a reduced capacity for multitasking, and poor short-term memory.
He would then suffer a heart attack at the age of 48 and knew that he had to change his life.
Mike took up archery and was successful in his application to join Team Canada for the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 and described his experience at the Invictus Games as 'phenomenal'.
"For myself, the journey has been all about overcoming illness/injury, rising to challenges, and using the process to raise awareness about veteran’s care and mental health."
